About Us

Tanis Olafson, FCPA, FCGA

Tanis began her career shortly after she completed high school, taking a job as an administrative assistant at a public accounting firm. Loving the variety and fast-paced environment of public accounting, she purchased the firm and became a sole practitioner in 2000. Along the way she obtained her accounting designation, worked extensively in First Nations auditing and consulting and grew the firm. In 2007, she partnered with Mark Jones, FCPA, FCGA, to form the firm that it is today – Olafson & Jones, Chartered Professional Accountants.

As a lifelong public accountant, Tanis has provided accounting, tax and advisory services to a diverse range of clients including corporate, personal and not-for-profit.

In 2012, Tanis was hired by CGA Manitoba to conduct practice inspections of her peers. The inspections ensured that all firms were in compliance with accounting and auditing standards.

Throughout her career, Tanis has also been actively involved in the profession. She has served as a mentor to new practitioners and delivered seminars for CGA Manitoba on accounting and auditing standards. She served in several ways for CGA Manitoba, including the CGA Manitoba Board of Governors and the CGA Canada National Professional Standards Committee. Tanis is currently a member of the Practice Inspection Committee for CPA Manitoba. Additionally, she has been an active volunteer outside of the profession working with the non-profit sector. Tanis has served as Treasurer of the Hearthstone Community Group, an organization that assists adults with mental disabilities and is the currently on the board for the McConnell School of Dance.

Mark Jones, FCPA, FCGA

Mark Jones, FCPA, FCGA earned his professional accounting designation in 2000 and aspired to open his own public accounting firm after leaving the role of General Manager and Regional Director of Video One. Believing in the importance of giving back to the profession, Mark served in numerous capacities on the CGA Manitoba Board. His involvement extended to serving as a member and then Chair of the Public Practice Committee, as well as a member of the Public Practice Task Force. Mark was also actively involved in the unification of the accounting profession which included appearing before the Legislative Standing Committee on behalf of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce in support of the CPA Manitoba Act. Mark presently serves on the CPA Manitoba Board and is a member of the Tax Committee and Chair of the Audit Committee. He can regularly be heard representing CPA Manitoba in the media providing commentary on tax and accounting related news stories.
